How To Write Your Vows

Not sure where to start?  I got you!

Hey there babes! It's your favourite celebrant, Danielle Aquilina, aka The Zesty Celebrant, ready to dive into the exciting process of writing your wedding vows! Let's make this an adventure you'll remember forever!

  1. First things first, grab your partner and have a heart-to-heart conversation about what you both want to include in your vows. Will it be funny or sentimental? Long or short? This is your chance to get creative, so let your imaginations run wild!

  2. Next, take a trip down memory lane and reflect on your relationship. Remember those butterflies you felt on your first date? Or how about that time you faced a tough challenge together and came out even stronger? Use those moments as inspiration for your vows and let your love story shine through.

  3. Now, it's time to make some promises! Jot down a list of commitments that you want to make to your partner. These can be simple or grandiose, just make sure they come straight from your heart.

  4. With your list of promises in hand, let's start writing! Pour your heart and soul onto paper and don't worry about being perfect. This is all about expressing your love in your own unique way.

  5. Once you've written your first draft, it's time to edit and refine. Focus on clarity and authenticity, and don't be afraid to ask for feedback from your friends and family.

  6. Practice makes perfect, so take some time to read your vows aloud and get comfortable with the words. On your wedding day, be present in the moment and let your love shine through in every word you say.

Remember, this is your chance to express your love in a way that is meaningful to you and your partner. So, get ready to have some fun and create vows that you'll cherish for a lifetime!

Think of this as a little love letter to one another - and remember,

it doesn't have to be loooong and soppy - it just has to be YOU!

Want some Structure?

  1. Opening: Start your vows with an opening statement that sets the tone and captures your partner's attention. You can begin with a statement about your love, a quote, or a personal story that illustrates your feelings.

  2. Express your love: Use this part of your vows to express your love and admiration for your partner. Talk about the qualities that you admire, what you appreciate about them, and why you fell in love with them.

  3. Make promises: This is the heart of your vows. Make promises to your partner about what you will do to support and care for them throughout your lives together. These can be specific promises related to your relationship, or more general promises about how you will be there for each other through thick and thin.

  4. Personal touch: Add a personal touch to your vows that reflects your unique relationship. This can be a funny story, a shared memory, or a special moment that you both cherish.

  5. Closing: End your vows with a statement of commitment and love. You can include a quote, a statement about your future together, or simply end with "I love you."

Some Inspo Bits to Add...

  • I promise to love you, honour you, and cherish you as my husband/wife/partner.

  • I am proud to be your loving wife, ecstatic to discover what is next in our lives, and thrilled that our every day will be together on this adventure.

  • I promise to laugh with you and to laugh at myself.

  • You are the love of my life and I am proud to marry you. I promise to support your dreams and to be there for you for all eternity.

  • I vow to be a loving and devoted wife, without judgement, without scorn, but always with an open heart and mind.

  • We are best friends, with unending happiness, always having the best time, let’s solve life’s mysteries together one embrace at a time.

  • I truly love all I know of you and long to learn more as we grow old together, falling for you a little more each day, being part of your life and connected in every way forever.

  • You are my forever, my best friend, my dream come true, my shoulder to lean on, my husband. You are my everything.

  • I vow to listen, to speak lovingly, to give generously all of myself, to care, to heal, to rejoice, and to pray with you forever and always.

  • I love you to the moon and back. And so much more than that.

From HIM

  • I vow to make my life forever yours and build my dreams around you.

  • I promise to be the man that I see now in your eyes, today, tomorrow, and for always.

  • You are the first person I want to see in the morning and the last at night. I look forward to loving the smallest moments, like your eyes while you toss your hair. Spin a coin into a fountain and make a wish for us. You are my wish come true.

  • I vow to always protect you from harm, to stand with you against your troubles, and look to you when I need protection.

  • I know you. I know you as my love who has always been and will always be. I name you my wife and cannot wait to continue our eternal loving journey.

  • In your eyes, I have found my home. In your heart, I have found my love. In your soul, I have found my mate. With you, I am whole, full, alive. You make me laugh. You let me cry. You are my breath, my every heartbeat.

  • You know me better than anyone else in this world and somehow still you manage to love me. You are my best friend and one true love. There is still a part of me today that cannot believe that I’m the one who gets to marry you.

  • I see these vows not as promises but as privileges: I get to laugh with you and cry with you; care for you and share with you. I get to run with you and walk with you; build with you and live with you.

  • I pledge to listen to your advice, and occasionally take it. I pledge to never keep score… even if I’m totally winning. I pledge to always admire your huge, strong, kind and determined heart. I pledge that I will love you.

  • I am so happy to be able to tell you – I do, I will, and I always will – whatever I have is yours.

From the Silly

  • I vow to never steal the covers unless, you’re hogging them.

  • I vow to turn on the heater when you’re freezing cold, even if I’m burning up.

  • I promise to take out the garbage, even in the pouring rain or freezing cold.

  • I promise to get up and get our remote from across the room, even if it was not I who placed the remote so very far away.

  • I promise to always respect your choice of music in the car when you are driving. If you are not driving however…

  • I promise to root for the Broncos even though I could truly care less who wins.

  • You are the one I want to binge watch Netflix with forever.

  • I promise to love you as much as the Maroons and not hold your colours against you.

  • Let’s be the only people to get each other’s jokes.

  • I vow to be your spell checker, grammar friend, and tell you when things need hyphens. I promise to be your partner in exercise, even if I am much faster than you, and most of all, I promise to try things, even though I am sure I will not like them, just because you say, “try this!”

  • I promise to share the covers, leave the light on, make sure the toilet paper is stocked, not use all the hot water, and do as many dishes as I can stomach, as long as we both shall live so help me God.

And a lil sample...

“Chloe, you know me better than anyone else in this world and somehow still you manage to love me. You are my best friend and one true love. There is still a part of me today that cannot believe that I’m the one who gets to marry you.  I promise to keep your secrets, share your laughter and cook most of the meals in the house because let's be honest - I'm much better at it.

Chloe, I give you this ring as a symbol of my everlasting love for you”

(Philip places the ring on Chloe’s hand)

“Philip, I promise to encourage your compassion, because that is what makes you unique and wonderful. I promise to nurture your dreams, because through them your soul shines.  I promise to grow with you, learn from you and leave enough hot water for you to shower in the morning after I'm done.  You are more than just my heart, you are my friend, my lover, my confidant and the one person who feels like home.
I promise to help shoulder our challenges, for there is nothing we cannot face if we stand together.

Philp, I give you this ring as a symbol of my everlasting love for you

(Chloe places the ring on Philip’s hand)
